ON TALLER TARAPACÁ
BY MIGUEL ANDRADE VALDEZ
Taller Tarapacá is a design project founded by Miguel Andrade Valdez in 2019.
Taller Tarapacá produces objects for the home. These objects are curated by Miguel Andrade Valdez and are the result of a collaborative work between himself, Paula Cermeño León (industrial designer), Mozhdeh Matin Sahih (textile and fashion designer) and Diana Ortega (architect); together with local crafts experts and artisans.
Taller Tarapacá editions are made with fair and sustainable interactions, whose sensitivity is based on an admiration for the simple and traditional design of the different cultures of the region, and for local, non-synthetic or artificial materials.

ABOUT TALLER TARAPACÁ DESIGN STUDIO LIMA
Taller Tarapacá is a design collective founded in 2019 by artist Miguel Andrade Valdez and architect Diana Ortega Garagatti together with industrial designer Paula Cermeño León and textile designer Mozhdeh Matin. The design collective puts local master craftspeople, skilled in working with Peruvian heritage materials and techniques, together with designers to produce editions of textiles, ceramics and wooden furniture for contemporary interiors and patios. They also collaborate with small family owned producers. Taller Tarapacá’s different lines of furniture, textiles and objects merge the sleek minimal design of our times with inspirations from pre-Columbian objects and architecture.
Through its production and design, the design collective engages with the community and gives agency to the cultural heritage of Peru and its master artisans. With a showroom in Lima, in a house and studio built by Andrade Valdez, the design collective also operates out of Yukay in the Sacred Valley close to Urubamba. www.tallertarapaca.com

Edilberto Chair
The Edilberto Chair by Diana Ortega Garagatti is the result of a composition that seeks to create a simple object while maintaining the spirit of the classic chair by the craftsman and sculptor Edilberto Guerrero. The chair is made from upcycled wood found near the Tumbes river, such as algarrobo and madero negro and its colors have been impacted by the minerals of the river water.
MOLLE COSTERO
Molle Costero is a wool carpet conceived as a translated drawing: a textile interpretation by master artist-weaver Inocencio Fernández, based on original drawings by Miguel Andrade Valdez, where art, craft, and cultural continuity converge and the weaver’s hand becomes an active author. Inspired by the deep green tonality that runs through Peruvian decorative arts from colonial times to contemporary practices, the piece reflects on color as a carrier of memory, drawing from the observation of vegetal patterns and references to Cusco ceramics, Pucará pottery, and the work of artists such as Grimanesa Neuhaus and Tater Vera.
Handwoven using traditional techniques in 100% sheep wool, Molle Costero presents subtle variations that affirm its handmade nature, functioning as a collectible artwork designed to inhabit curated interiors as both a grounding presence and a cultural statement.
