Monumento Lima, 2010-2011

The video work Monumento Lima, 2010-2012, by Miguel Andrade Valdez is a chaotic, rapid-fire visual compendium of the monuments that occupy Lima’s traffic circles and pedestrian malls. They range from the forgotten to the futurist, Spanish Mediterranean to the Brutalist architecture, as well as Modernist. In the video, the trapezoid emerges as a very popular shape for monuments in Peru due to its common motif in pre-Columbian architecture.

The work, now in the collection of MALI, Lima, was exhibited at AMOA-Arthouse, The Jones Center, Austin, Texas, US, in 2012 and at Art Public, Art Basel Miami Beach, Collins Park, in 2012. Credits: Miguel Andrade Valdez Studio.

A vide projection of a cityscape with monuments from the city of Lima. An oval, spindly shape in pale blue is surrounded bu streets and buildings. In the foreground trunks and fronds of palm trees.
